What To Wear
Generally when we photograph a group (like a family) we will provide the following guidelines regarding clothing:

Notice how the clothing visually brings the family group together.
-
Solid Colors – avoid prints, stripes or contrasty designs. Stay with solids.
-
Long Sleeves – bare arms can create distractions
-
Muted Tones – generally we like to avoid bright colors
-
Match Every Person in the portrait – just imagine if one person would wear a red striped shirt; your eye would go RIGHT TOWARD that odd color. Keeping things consistent creates visual unity in the portrait.
A few more comments: you could wear any thing from white shirts and khaki pants to black shirts and black pants. Other colors that generally go well are:
Pastels – everybody could wear a different color, but if they’re all pastel, that works very well.
Medium Tones – all these colors work well together: burgundy, rust, brown, dark gray or forest green. Again, for the bottoms, it usually works best to match colors.
